{"id":2574,"date":"2012-03-10T11:38:58","date_gmt":"2012-03-10T03:38:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/?p=2574"},"modified":"2012-03-10T11:38:58","modified_gmt":"2012-03-10T03:38:58","slug":"bonnie-dog-biscuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/bonnie-dog-biscuits\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Bonnie&#8221; (Dog) biscuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/?attachment_id=2575\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2575\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2575\" title=\"Bonnie biscuits\" src=\"http:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4889-x-1-with-C-575x486.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4889-x-1-with-C-575x486.jpg 575w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4889-x-1-with-C-300x253.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4889-x-1-with-C-150x126.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4889-x-1-with-C-400x338.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4889-x-1-with-C.jpg 807w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I think about what we ate before purchasing\u00a0our Thermomix it was quite different to what we eat now.\u00a0 At the time I used to think we had quite a healthy diet.\u00a0 Lots of fruit and vegetables, red meat a few times a week, chicken and never enough fish :).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 However after having our beloved \u201cHermie\u201d for over a year, I have come to realise that what I thought was healthy, actually wasn\u2019t so good for us.\u00a0 We were still consuming a lot of additives and preservatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main reason I say this is because we used to still have store bought basics like tomato sauce, peanut butter, chocolate hazelnut spread, etc and when you start reading the labels on these items there can be several letters\u00a0and\u00a0numbers instead of fresh ingredients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now I find myself making these things and many more, just because I can.\u00a0 Soy milk, almond milk, raw vegan shakes, cashew cream, whole wheat sesame\u00a0crackers, some of these things I\u2019ve never contemplated making let alone attempted to do so.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That is exactly how\u00a0this recipe came about.\u00a0 I started reading the label on the box of biscuits that we buy for our girl (Bonnie the dog) and I thought \u201cif we\u2019re eating healthy then so will the dog\u201d.\u00a0 No more fillers and additives for anyone in this\u00a0family!\u00a0 So now we also have homemade dog biscuits, which I might add, are totally safe for human consumption and taste really good.\u00a0 (Yes, I did try them!)<\/p>\n<p>I have you have a special someone to make these for too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ce2307;\">&#8220;bonnie&#8221; (dog) biscuits (recipe by Fiona at Food 4 Thought) &#8211; Designed for the Thermomix BUT you can make these without one.\u00a0 Just read &#8220;My tips&#8221;.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ce2307;\">makes\u00a0approximately 60 bone shape biscuits<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #346c17;\">Ingredients<\/span><br \/>\n200 &#8211; 250g (3 &#8211; 4 rashers) bacon, roughly chopped<br \/>\n350g whole wheat grain (or whole wheat flour)<br \/>\n100g rolled oats<br \/>\n100g\u00a0cheddar cheese, cubed<br \/>\n50g\u00a0butter<br \/>\n200g water<br \/>\n100g milk<br \/>\n150g cornmeal (polenta)<br \/>\n1 egg<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #346c17;\">Preparation<\/span><br \/>\nPre-heat the oven to 160\u00b0C (325\u00b0F\/Gas 3).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add bacon to TM bowl and chop on Speed 5 for 3 &#8211; 5 seconds, until desired texture is obtained. Cook at 100\u00b0C for 8 &#8211; 10 minutes on reverse, soft speed. Once cooked, remove\u00a0and set aside to cool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add whole wheat grain to TM bowl and mill on Speed 10 for 30 &#8211; 45 seconds depending on the desired texture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add cheese and oats\u00a0to TM bowl and mill on Speed 7 for 5 seconds.\u00a0 Set aside with milled wheat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add\u00a0butter,\u00a0water and milk to TM bowl and heat at 60\u00b0C for\u00a02 minutes on speed 1.\u00a0 Once complete, add milled wheat, oats, cheese, cornmeal and egg to TM bowl and mix on speed 6 for 5 &#8211; 10 seconds (by slowly turning dial from 1 &#8211; 6) until just combined.\u00a0 Add bacon and mix for 5 &#8211; 10 seconds on reverse until completely combined.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tip bowl upside down onto Thermomat and turn base of blade to release mixture.\u00a0 If mixture is slightly wet leave to stand for 5 minutes before rolling out.\u00a0 Roll out (with rolling pin) to 1\/2 cm thickness and cut into desired shape.\u00a0 Place on lined baking tray and bake for 40 &#8211; 45 minutes.\u00a0 Cool on wire rack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #346c17;\">My tips\/alterations:<\/span> *If you don&#8217;t have a Thermomix, use wholewheat flour instead of the grain.\u00a0 You can also substitute the oats for an extra 100g of flour if you like.\u00a0 You could cook the bacon in a frying\u00a0pan as you would normally, allow it to cool, then crumble it into small pieces.\u00a0 Grate the cheese as you would normally.\u00a0 Then you can just mix it all together and rolll it out as instructed.\u00a0\u00a0*You could add chopped carrots, spinach or\u00a0corn to these for something a little different.\u00a0 See\u00a0my\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/?p=2115\">Puppy Treats recipe<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0other tips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/?attachment_id=2576\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2576\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2576\" title=\"Bonnie biscuits\" src=\"http:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4885-tall-x-1-with-C-393x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"393\" height=\"575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4885-tall-x-1-with-C-393x575.jpg 393w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4885-tall-x-1-with-C-205x300.jpg 205w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4885-tall-x-1-with-C-102x150.jpg 102w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4885-tall-x-1-with-C-400x584.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.foodfourthought.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/PS-4885-tall-x-1-with-C.jpg 465w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 393px) 100vw, 393px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>e<\/strong><strong>ase: 7.5\/10.<\/strong> The fact that these are made from whole ingredients makes it more challenging but the TM makes it easy.<br \/>\n<strong>prep time: 15mins<\/strong><strong>.<br \/>\ncooking time: 45mins<\/strong> plus cooling<br \/>\n<strong>total: 1 hour<\/strong> plus cooling<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>taste: 8\/10.<\/strong> These are hard to rate as I&#8217;ve never eaten dog biscuits before :).\u00a0 Bonnie seems to love these.\u00a0 Whenever she sees one she begs to have it asap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>would I make it again:<\/strong> <strong>Yes.<\/strong>\u00a0 Not a lot of work to achieve a healthy alternative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I think about what we ate before purchasing our Thermomix it was quite different to what we eat now.
